Camirus is led by Matthew Rhodes, an independent consultant and non-executive director working in the UK and European energy and local economic development sectors.
He specialises in optimising local economic and industrial benefits from localised energy systems and demand-side innovations. For 14 years up to 2017 he created and led a specialist project engineering and economics consultancy in the low carbon energy and building sector, delivering collaborative and innovative projects across the UK and internationally.
Matthew currently chairs the Energy Capital Partnership in the UK West Midlands, responsible to the Mayor and Combined Authority for development and delivery of the regional energy strategy.
Before founding his own company in 2003, Matthew worked internationally for companies including BP, RWE, Unilever, and PA Consulting Group. He’s also been a board member of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP (2016-20) and of the Sustainable Housing Action Partnership (SHAP).
Matthew speaks regularly at national and international events and has acted as an independent expert panel member for both the UK research councils and EU for many years. As an independent expert in the UK distributed energy sector he currently sits on the Customer Engagement Group for Western Power Distribution providing independent scrutiny of their RIIO-2 price control submission. He’s also been a Commissioner for two independent commissions funded by the University of Birmingham and Energy Systems Catapult on the role of the UK regions in the UK energy system and waste to energy.
